BERTS is a vision from Architects Lou Davies + Caroline Hunter with Stylist Lucy Franks to create the perfect contemporary cabin in the woods.

After decades spent designing homes and hospitality destinations, navigating the complexities of bespoke architecture projects through their award-winning practice BOX 9, Lou and Caroline wanted to offer something different - a curated range of beautifully crafted buildings that distilled everything they’d learnt into a single, effortless solution infused with character.

The idea was simple, a modular space designed with intention, crafted with character from sustainable materials, built off-site with minimal disruption to their clients’ lives. It struck a chord. What began successfully as a single product in 2015 has now become something more - a way of thinking, designing and living.

In 2023, interior designer and stylist Lucy Franks joined the heart of the studio, bringing with her an instinctive talent for pairing texture, tone and proportion. Lucy layers warmth, character and calm into every BERTS interior.

Today, BERTS offers a three cabin collection - designed to transform landscapes into destinations, gardens into sanctuaries and retreat spaces into something truly meaningful. Wrapped with a range of services all rooted in a restorative design philosophy.

Our Services

Building change: our 10% pledge.

Giving back is carved into the grain of what we do.

At BERTS, we believe that beautiful spaces shouldn’t be a luxury, they should be a force for change.

At BERTS, we believe that good design should give something back. That’s why we created the independent charitable foundation, BERTS ROOTS FOUNDATION, supporting projects that protect and enhance the natural environment.

Each year we will donate at least 10% of BERTS’ profits to the BERTS ROOTS FOUNDATION, helping fund charitable activities that promote the conservation and protection of the natural environment through environmental education, material innovation, craft and sustainable development.

We’re currently looking for organisations whose work aligns with these goals. If you’re doing brilliant work that could benefit from the support of the Foundation, we’d love to hear from you.

Let’s change something together.
