The Process


From first idea to final placement - our process is calm, curated and completely tailored to you.

  • After exploring our website, please read through our process + FAQ’s.

  • Tell us about your project by submitting an ENQUIRY FORM.

  • You’ll receive our BERTS Lookbook full of inspirational palettes + options to begin imagining your BERTS cabin while our team review your project.

  • Our designers will then contact you for an initial consultation call and talk you through the BERTS choices + options.

  • Using our LOOKBOOK ORDER FORM. or with the help of our team finalise your selection, including cladding, flooring, bathroom and kitchen finishes from our carefully curated range.

  • Once we receive your order form we will build a personalised specification and quote tailored to your choices.

  • Our Design and Installation team will visit your site, check its suitability and finalise logistics. We will complete your bespoke BERTS design and produce your individual specification and final pricing document. For this stage we will request a £1500 fee.

  • This starts the build process, with the expected timescale defined for each of the cabin types. We require a 10% deposit to book your fabrication slot and complete your detailed drawing and specification pack. If you need to move fast you can talk to our team to reserve your fabrication slot earlier in the process.

  • Within a few weeks all details will be signed-off and we commence the precise build process. Your cabin is built entirely in our factory to your exact specifications and with rigorous quality control checks. We ensure your cabin is produced to the highest standard of finish and with the maximum level of efficiency so that your BERTS cabin is ready to be delivered within the agreed times detailed for each cabin type.

  • We will guide you through the site preparations required to be ready for your BERTS delivery, we will coordinate drawings for foundations and services and check everything is as it should be before the delivery day.

  • We recommend that you come visit your completed build before it leaves our factory. Our team will walk you through every detail ensuring it exceeds your expectations before BERTS journey to you.

  • Our specialist transport and install team will take care of everything to ensure that your BERTS cabin is delivered with speed and elegance, and most importantly with minimal disruption to you or your guests. We aim to have BERTS installed and ready to use within 1-5 days.

  • Every BERTS is crafted in the UK using reclaimed materials, including ancient oak, weathered millboard and steamed cork—materials chosen not just for performance, but for character.

    We blend modern off-site construction with soulful, storied materials. No two BERTS are the same—each one is designed to feel unique, timeless and entirely your own.

  • Each BERTS building  is designed in-house by our experienced architects and interior designers.

  • BERTS are built off-site in our British workshop, then delivered to your location in 1–4 pieces and installed within 1–5 days.

    We require a minimum access width of 3.5m for our delivery vehicles. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to advise on access and delivery requirements.

  • Yes—we take care of it all. Everything is delivered and installed by expert partners using specialist equipment to place it precisely where it belongs.

    Most installs take just 1-5 days, sometimes a matter of hours. To help us assess your site, please share your what3words address and flag any access issues such as narrow lanes, overhanging trees or power lines.

  • Typically No, our larger retreats meet the criteria of the Caravan Act, meaning planning permission isn’t required when sited within the garden of your home for personal use.

    We recommend applying for a Certificate of Lawfulness, and we can guide you through that process. Our smaller models, like the Sauna and Study, can be built to comply with UK garden room regulations and therefore don’t need any planning applications at all.

  • BERTS retreats are delivered ready to connect to your existing services. All you need is a domestic power supply, a cold water feed and a soil connection to mains drainage or a biodigester.

    We’ll supply detailed drawings to guide your groundworks team and ensure everything is ready on arrival.

  • We use ground screws from The Great British Ground Screw Company—quicker to install, easier on the land and significantly lower in carbon footprint than concrete.

    Installation typically takes just 1-5 days dependent on cabin type/size. If your site includes rock or made-up ground, we’ll design an alternative. Not sure what’s suitable? We can arrange a pre-survey to assess your site.

  • They are built above and beyond New Build Regulations ( they will last as long as any traditional house ) our cabins will last a lifetime, no different to a permanent building, arguably better due to the precision that comes with building in a factory.

  • Yes we are hospitality experts, our founders have over 25 years experience supporting some of the UK’s best known and most innovative destinations including  The Pig, Soho House, Louma & Denton Reserve.

    Our in house team includes Architects, Interior Designers and Stylists, and we have a trusted team of collaborators to cover viability, concept creation and brand development.
